Brother, sister - you are the light
I'm Roody. Haitian-American -- born in Port-au-Prince, moved away from the island before I was old enough to remember it. I never grew up walking those streets or speaking the language fluently in the schoolyard, yet Haiti has lived in me every day since: a phantom homeland, vivid in my dreams, threaded through everything I am.
There was always music inside me -- fully formed melodies that I could hear with startling clarity but never translate into the physical world. I lacked the studio, the technical fluency, and if I'm honest, the nerve to expose something that intimate. So for years, that music remained sealed away -- a vault I carried everywhere but could never open.
Bon Vwayaj is what happens when you stop waiting for permission to create. Four AI-generated voices now carry a vision I could never have realized alone. AI is my co-producer, my ensemble, my entire studio -- the collaborator I spent a lifetime searching for. It dissolved the barrier between what I heard in my soul and what the world could finally hear. It helped my soul song sing.
These songs move between Haitian Kreyòl and English, and that duality is deeply personal. I understand Kreyòl, but I never had the chance to cultivate it the way I would have had I grown up on the island. Creating this music allows me to hear my ancestral language sung back to me -- to learn it through melody, to inhabit it through rhythm, and to honor both hemispheres of my identity: the Haitian roots and the American becoming. Every Kreyòl-to-English call-and-response is a bridge spanning the home I departed and the one I built with my own hands.
I want the world to hear the beauty of the Haitian language -- its warmth, its music, its gravity. I want people who have never encountered a single word of Kreyòl to fall in love with its sound. And I want anyone carrying an unrealized dream to look at this project and understand something essential: expertise is not the prerequisite -- audacity is. I am not a trained musician. I am not fluent in my own ancestral tongue. That is precisely why I'm doing this.
The absence of expertise should never be the reason you leave a dream untouched. AI has dismantled that excuse entirely. The only remaining constraint is the scope of your imagination. The only real question is how vast you dare to let it become.
In Haiti, we do not say goodbye. We say "Bon Vwayaj" -- a blessing spoken over someone's journey before they take the first step. Consider this one yours.
Four AI-generated voices carry the rhythms of the African diaspora -- Raboday pulsing from Haiti's streets, Amapiano rolling out of South Africa, Afrobeats thundering across West Africa, R&B rising from Black America, and Afro-Latin grooves woven into Caribbean blood.
Haiti's street pulse -- guiro scratch, log drums, carnival fire distilled into rhythm
South Africa's rolling bass and log drums meeting Caribbean warmth
West Africa's infectious grooves and percussive energy
Black America's soulful depth, gospel warmth, and velvet harmonies
This music refuses to stay in one place, because neither did we.
Our music is coming to life in multiple languages. Each version is not a translation -- it is a reincarnation, reimagined to breathe naturally in every tongue it inhabits.
Because empowerment has never required a passport.
